Hocking’s Deleon Tequila was launched in 2009 to a following in Hollywood and the U.S. music industry and was later purchased in 2014 by a joint venture between, hip-hop artist Sean Combs (P. Diddy) and the world’s largest spirits company, Diageo. This new product appears to be taking the same Hollywood path.
Oddly enough, they point out that the whiskey is “Not from Virginia” but the brand name evokes “an attitude of glamour, swagger and soul, long absent in the American Bourbon Whiskey category.” The marketing says this bourbon whiskey brand is “Rich. Decadent. Smooth.” It’s a blend of two, three and four-year old Bourbon Whiskey with a high-rye content and finished with a “decadent” profile.
“Uniquely positioned to redefine American Whiskey, Virginia Black will engage enthusiasts irrespective of spirit preference or experience,” says founder and creator Brent Hocking.
They also did not provide a price point but said, “We believe everyone should have access to glamour, swagger and soul. Our price point grants them that access, allowing people to embody the lifestyle always, not just on special occasions.”
Virginia Black Bourbon Whiskey will be distributed exclusively by Proximo Spirits. Proximo’s portfolio of spirits consists of brands across a number of different categories including Jose Cuervo, Bushmills, Tincup Whiskey, The Kraken Rum, Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey and many others.
Virginia Black is 80 proof / 40% alcohol-by-volume and is expected to be available May 1, 2016 in California, New York and Nevada followed by an International rollout.
