The Kentucky Distillers’ Association has added its 28th member to the association with the addition of Kentucky Mist Moonshine distillery located in Eastern Kentucky’s Appalachian Mountains.
Kentucky Mist Moonshine owner Colin Fultz said, “Kentucky Mist Moonshine is a craft distillery born from a deep heritage of distilling spirits in Eastern Kentucky. We take pride in distilling every drop of alcohol used in our products and making flavored moonshine using whole fruit for the most genuine of taste.”
“Colin and his team have done a fantastic job in resurrecting his family’s legacy and bringing jobs and tourism to this critical region of Kentucky,” Kentucky Distillers’ Association President Eric Gregory said. “We are inspired by their success and proudly welcome them to our distilling family.”

A Family History of Bootlegging & Federal Prison
Flutz says he has drawn from his grandfather Henry Holbrook’s bootlegging history in the hills of Appalachia to create his flavored moonshines using recipes passed down for generations from the early days of Prohibition. A period Flutz refers to as, “the Dark Ages, as they should be rightly called.”
To say Flutz and the Holbrook name has a history of bootlegging would be putting it lightly. Not only was his grandfather a bootlegger, he was caught bootlegging corn liquor during Prohibition in 1930 and spent the next 17 years in federal prison. While there Flutz says his grandfather formed a good relationship with another bootlegger of the day, none other than Al Capone. All these years later, Flutz decided to take his age old family recipes and make legal moonshine.
“We are very excited and thankful to be the newest members of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association and look for forward to growing our relationship and our passion for spirits for many years to come.”
Kentucky Mist Moonshine products include moonshines such as Corn Mist, Mist, Apple Pie, Lemonade, Caramel Apple, Infused Strawberry, Infused Blackberry, Infused Cherry, Infused Grape and Peach Mist. An aged corn moonshine and aged rum also are in the works.
Kentucky Mist opened in 2015 at 128 East Main Street in downtown Whitesburg in the heart of Eastern Kentucky coal country. The tasting room and gift shop is open Monday through Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m. The distillery is closed Sunday and Monday.
