It was 50 years ago today on April 9, 1969 that Bob Dylan released his “Nashville Skyline” album. The album was a shift from his usual folksy sound into the country genre. At the time, it was the third album he recorded in Nashville, Tennessee.
50 Years Later Heaven’s Door Distillery to Be Part of Nashville Skyline
The legendary rock, folk and country artist has never slowed down since he first hit the music scene in the early 1960s. To this day Dylan still performs nearly 100 shows a year. In recent years his work as an author and visual artist has further burnished his popularity and acclaim. His artwork has been featured at several major exhibitions with his paintings and hand crafted iron gates at some of the world’s most prestigious museums and galleries.
Today, some of those iron gates are prominently featured on Heaven’s Door Spirits Tennessee whiskey bottles. Heaven’s Door Spirits is a new spirits brand created last year between the legendary Bob Dylan and Spirits Investment Partnership – SIP.
Heaven’s Door Distillery to Break Ground on New Distillery in September 2019
The now world famous musician never could have imagined 50 years ago that the Nashville Skyline album title would one day lead to his own distillery and performance hall filling in the actual Nashville skyline. Heaven’s Door Spirits has officially announced they will be breaking ground on their new distillery this September during Bourbon Heritage Month in Nashville’s SoBro neighborhood.

Quite appropriately, this location will be home to much more than a distillery. The new center will feature the Heaven’s Door craft distillery, complete with guided tours, a whiskey library, restaurant and a 360-seat live performance venue, all part of a renovation project to the 160-year-old Elm Street Church that will also display pieces of Dylan’s paintings and unique metalwork sculptures. Renovation and construction for the project is expected to last about a year with the new Heaven’s Door Distillery and Center for the Arts is slated to open in Fall 2020.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate the anniversary of ‘Nashville Skyline’ with our own addition to Music City’s skyline,” said Marc Bushala, CEO of Heaven’s Door Spirits. “Nashville is the natural home for the Heaven’s Door distillery and the Elm Street Church is a fitting home for Dylan’s visual artwork. We spent years looking for a property that truly captures the essence of the Heaven’s Door brand, and when we finally found the deconsecrated church in SoBro, we immediately knew that it would be the perfect physical and spiritual center for the brand, and Bob’s art.”
