Hard Truth Distilling Co. located in Nashville, Indiana started their craft spirits distillery in 2015. What began with used brewing equipment on the second floor of a pizza restaurant soon turned into a brand new full-fledged standalone craft spirits distillery on the outskirts of town. Since those humble beginnings they’ve become the largest craft spirits distillery in the state of Indiana and have launched many of their own products as well as many sourced spirits. For their newest sourced product they went a long distance to the founder’s homeland – Ireland.
Their newest release McCabe’s Irish Whiskey was imported from Ireland then was proofed and bottled in Brown County, Indiana. The name pays homage to the clan McCabe, which falls in line with the family lineage of the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman for Hard Truth Distilling Co., Jeff McCabe.
Clan McCabe, dates back to the year of 1350, when members established themselves as a powerful Irish dynasty among the hilly countryside of today’s modern counties of Leitrim and Cavan. Nearly 700 years later, McCabe’s Irish Whiskey is still cultivated from the finest whiskey stocks in Ireland and honors the family heritage of Hard Truth’s Jeff McCabe.
“I grew up with wonderful stories about the McCabes, including my great grandfather’s journey from Ireland to the United States and the new life he started in Dekalb County, Illinois. My grandmother often told me about the exploits of my grandfather Leo and his brothers, who were first-generation Irish Americans. They knew how to work hard, play hard and live life with gusto,” said McCabe.
“There is a special place in my heart for the old neighborhood Irish bars where my father and his kin would shoot pool, share stories and enjoy a pint and a shot or two of Irish Whiskey. That’s what being a McCabe means to me. It evokes a warm feeling, a cherished memory and a joy for living, and that is what I hope people who try McCabe’s Irish Whiskey will experience.”

McCabe’s Irish Whiskey Tasting Notes
Tasting notes provided by the distillery says McCabe’s Irish Whiskey has a pale gold appearance with a nose full of cereal grain, dried fruit and honey. The taste is full of toasted grain and malt with hints of pear and caramel, followed by a light finish with notes of dried fruit and spice.
“As master distiller, maintaining the highest quality standards in practice and the final product is top of mind every day, all day. Adding this very special Irish Whiskey into the Hard Truth portfolio of spirts was a unique experience for us as the flavors were set in Ireland long before its arrival,” said Bryan Smith, Master Distiller and General Manager at Hard Truth Distilling Co. “This whiskey stands out among its peers and was clearly favored during our review process with unique notes of toasted nuts, honey and sweet malted grain. It is a fine addition to our ever-growing family of spirits at Hard Truth Distilling Co.”
Hard Truth’s McCabe’s Irish Whiskey is bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). The imported Irish Whiskey is available in 750 ML bottles with a suggested retail price of $29.95 and will be available at the distillery, all seven Big Woods restaurant locations, and retailers throughout Indiana.
