NewsBreif: Anheuser-Busch received major backlash over a tagline that appeared on some of its Bud Light bottles. The phrase “The perfect beer for removing “No” from your vocabulary for the night.” with the Twitter hashtag #UpForWhatever. Seriously, what were they thinking? Was this approved by a committee of one?

The company has since come out saying,

…this particular message missed the mark, and we regret it.

Lambrecht, Vice President, Bud Light, Anheuser-Busch said in a statement, “The Bud Light Up for Whatever campaign, now in its second year, has inspired millions of consumers to engage with our brand in a positive and light-hearted way. In this spirit, we created more than 140 different scroll messages intended to encourage brand engagement. It’s clear that this particular message missed the mark, and we regret it. We would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior.”

If they were looking to encourage brand engagement, they succeeded, just not quite in the way they expected. As a result, Bud Light has immediately ceased production of this message on all bottles.

And finally, you know you are in trouble when politicians get involved and jump on the bandwagon.
