Tequila’s popularity is at an all-time high in the U.S. and represents the second-fastest growing spirits category by revenue and volume according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States – DISCUS. More and more spirits consumers are discovering Mexico’s native spirit with its deep-rooted heritage and unique flavor profile. And consumers are willing to splurge a little on their Tequila — Super-premium Tequila volumes have skyrocketed more than 1,500% since 2003.
Americans cannot get enough of Mexico’s native spirits. Since 2003, Tequila/Mezcal volumes have grown 294%, an average rate of 7.1% per year. In 2023 alone, 31.6 million 9-liter cases were sold.

Keys to Growth of Tequila and Mezcal
One of the keys to Tequila and Mezcal’s U.S. growth has been distiller’s ability to offer a product for every budget and occasion. By offering both well-aged, high-end and super-premium products, as well as affordable value brands, Tequila and Mezcal are accessible to all Americans.
While value and premium brands continue to grow, the fastest growth has been in high-end and super premium brands. High-end brands have grown 1,270% in volume since 2003. Similarly, super-premium Tequila & Mezcal volumes have skyrocketed more than 1,500% since 2003. Today, super-premium Tequila & Mezcal account for nearly 8.0 million 9-liter cases.
