Has Hard Truth Distilling Co. Gone Nuts?
The short answer is yes. They’ve just announced the release of their latest flavored spirit, Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey.
“When developing this spirit, I was focused on balancing the complexity of salted and deeply roasted peanut butter with the traditional straight bourbon whiskey character of caramel, corn and oak,” explained Hard Truth Master Distiller Bryan Smith.
“While some similar products in the marketplace utilize a far lower grade whiskey as the base spirit, we thought it was important to give our customers what they expect from Hard Truth Distilling Co. — a premium spirit utilizing the best ingredients we could find.”
The resulting beverage greets the palate with “aromas of honey roasted peanuts that give way to the flavors and rich mouthfeel of sweet peanut butter,” noted Hard Truth owner and co-founder Tim O’Bryan.
“The two-year straight bourbon whiskey used as this spirit’s base perfectly balances the finish as you notice subtle hints of sea salt.“

Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey Tasting Notes
According to the distillery Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey has an auburn appearance and offers an aroma of deep-roasted peanuts, corn and oak. Honey-roasted peanut flavor is accompanied by a creamy, sweet quality with hints of oak and corn. The drinking experience features a rich mouthfeel reminiscent of having eaten a spoonful of peanut butter, with a long, salty and sweet finish.
“Great whiskey enhanced by pure, peanut butter flavor — Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey isn’t like any other in its category,” said Hard Truth owner and co-founder Ed Ryan. “We’re always proud to share our premium releases with friends and fans, and, to celebrate Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey this weekend, the Hard Truth Hills Tours & Tastings Center will be offering a special collection of mixed drinks featuring this new spirit.”
Hard Truth Peanut Butter Whiskey is bottled at 70 proof (35% ABV). It is packaged in 750 mL bottles with a suggested retail price of $29.99 and will be available at all nine Big Woods Restaurant locations, Hard Truth Hills and local retailers throughout Indiana.
Hard Truth Distilling has been on a tear lately with multiple new product releases with no signs of slowing down even with the pandemic. In the coming weeks they will also launch Schoonover Straight Bourbon Whiskey from its curated Legends series.
