George Garvin Brown is the founder of Old Forester Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky. George was born September 2, 1846 and the brand has been celebrating his birthday with a release of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon Whisky for the last 23 years.
Birthday Bourbon Available at Retail Locations and via Sweepstakes
Old Forester’s Birthday Bourbon bottles will be available for purchase nationwide at select retailers and for the second year in a row via a national sweepstakes.
To try to level the playing field on how consumers can get their hands on a bottle of Birthday Bourbon, Old Forester introduced a national sweepstakes last year and they will be doing the same thing this year. The national sweepstakes will be running from August 24 through August 30, 2023. No longer can you stand in front of the distiller for 24+ hours in a line and hope to score a bottle. In fact, they explicitly are telling fans that Birthday Bourbon bottles will not be sold at the Old Forester Distillery on September 2.
Sweepstakes winners will be chosen on September 2, 2023 and bottles will be available for pickup at the distillery between September 8, 2023 through December 23, 2023.
2023 Birthday Bourbon is a 12-Year-old 96 Proof Bourbon

Tasting Notes
Color: Rich aged leather.
Aroma: Bright candied citrus and floral overtones give way to rich turbinado sugar and roasted coffee beans as slight cedar and charred oak round out the nose.
Taste: Subtle citrus with heavy notes of dark honey, molasses, and charred oak.
Finish: A dry toasty oaked caramel with lingering bittersweet tannins.

- Sweepstakes winners will have to pick up their Birthday Bourbon in person at the distillery before December 23, 2023.

- There will be some random unannounced days and times when there may be a gift shop release or in conjunction with select tastings or tours.
