Three of Strong Spirits rum distillery celebrated its grand opening in Portland, Maine.
Three of Strong Spirits distillery was inspired by a fabled rum punch recipe “One of sour, two of sweet, three of strong, four of weak.” The idea for a distillery began as a “what if?” between good friends and a bottle of rum. Co-founders and Portland-area residents Sam Pierce and Dave McConnell set out to create world-class rum in the heart of the city, where they’ve found community, camaraderie, and the adventures that make Maine, well, Maine.
“We want to provide friends new and old, family, neighbors, and our entire community a place that celebrates life in Maine and the spirit that defines it,” says Pierce.
Three of Strong’s Master Distiller Graham Hamblett, former head distiller at Delaware’s Dogfish Head Distillery, brings with him over 20 years of experience, crafting rum with depth and variety. Beverage Director Crystal Pomerleau, a founding officer of the Maine Chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild, showcases Three of Strong’s rums in a variety of creative, spirit-forward cocktails that pair well with a rotating menu of upscale comfort food. Together, the Three of Strong team is producing rum with a focus on process and pure, organic, and sustainable ingredients.
Smooth Brightwater silver rum, Parchando 12-year aged Colombian rum, and vibrant Stone Pier, a blend of Brightwater and a five-year-old Colombian rum, are made to be sipped, savored, and enjoyed by friends old and new. Beginning on November 8, Merrymeeting spiced rum will be joining the Three of Strong family. These spirits can be found at the Three of Strong tasting room and distillery, as well as at select local retailers, bars, and restaurants.
The distillery is open for tastings and tours in Portland’s East Bayside neighborhood.
