Italian start-up company 2045Tech is introducing Floome a smartphone breathalyzer to the U.S. market that can be plugged into a smartphone via a standard audio jack that measures the users blood alcohol concentration – BAC.
The manufacturer claims, all users have to do is “just blow.” The app offers a simple and intuitive user interface that delivers estimates and solutions regarding the user’s BAC in a matter of seconds. The app also features a tutorial video (you can see it below) to correctly guide new users in set up and usage.

Floome utilizes the same sensor as found in breathalyzers used by law enforcement officers, as well as a new proprietary vortex technology. This technology measures a user’s BAC to deliver precise estimates directly to their smartphone. Users must wait 20 minutes after their last alcoholic beverage prior to the test.
Floome Features
- The app provides users with an estimated time of recovery based on the individual’s profile and current BAC results, and is customized based on the user’s profile.
- Users can send their BAC and map location to friends, or call a taxi with a simple swipe.
- Provides convenient information on nearby restaurants to satisfy a midnight craving or lower one’s BAC before heading home.
- It also keeps users’ health in check by documenting alcohol intake using the Diary function to capture users’ weekly activities.
